Controls and Connectivity: iPhone 14
It still keeps the traditional and much-loved control layout that Apple users have grown accustomed to over time on the iPhone 14. Over at the left side are the volume buttons, ring/silent switch and in most regions a SIM tray (U.S. variants use eSIM only). On the right side you’ll find a power button, from which there’s no escape route but by pressing-and-holding to lock the device, call up Siri, or initiate sleeping.

iPhone 14 has a Lightning port on the bottom for charging and data transfer accompanied by the speaker grille and microphone. While USB-C isn’t even there on the standard models, Lightning is supported with a lot of Apple accessories.
For wireless connectivity, the iPhone 14 offers:
- 5G (Sub‑6 GHz and mmWave in select regions)
- Wi‑Fi 6 for fast and stable internet connections
- Bluetooth 5.3 for efficient pairing with accessories
- NFC for Apple Pay and compatible devices
- Ultra Wideband (UWB) for precise AirTag tracking and device awareness
One notable inclusion is Emergency SOS via satellite, meaning you can get through to emergency services even without cellular signal-so useful if off the grid somewhere. Built-in technologies such as sensors and microphones allow Crash Detection to be activated in the event of a car crash so that emergency responders are notified immediately.
In short, you get great controls and performance for present-day mobile living.
