We have a 3MP front camera, and 54MP on the rear with a 50MP ultra-wide and stereo speakers — so the audio experience seems excellent as well, which means that the Huawei Pura 80 is a great photo and video device to rival some of the best smartphones out there. The daylight photography is stupendous with colours being bright but not overtly processed, contrasting well and the level of details being fantastic (again a benefit of the 50MP main sensor). Dynamic Range is broad, as well, it keeps exposure even in high highlights and deep shadows scene.
Low-light performance is equally strong. Images are bright and sharp and low on noise even in Night Mode Huawei has implemented and the color reproduce is true to life. At least up to 10x zoom, the telephoto lens holds strong detail, though you can still get usable results even at higher magnifications, and distortion-free ultra-wide shots with decent edge sharpness.
Portrait shots have great subject separation and natural bokeh while macro mode captures fine textures and tiny details quite well.
The video recording capabilities on the Pura 80 are equally impressive. 4K at 60fps with stable stabilization for steadiness even on hand. Colors are detailed without oversaturation and autofocus transitions smooth and accurate. There is also HDR video recording on the phone for more detail in mixed lighting scenarios.
All of this maintains the excellent quality across the board of the Pura 80 imaging system, which sits comfortably among the top end for mobile photography.
