iPadOS: Powering the iPad Experience
iPadOS is Apple’s new iPad-optimized operating system. It began as an offshoot of iOS, but in 2019 it became a separate platform with capabilities and flexibility that made the iPad feel more like a laptop that was also cursor-free.
What makes iPadOS different? For starters, multitasking. Also with Split View, Slide Over and the new Stage Manager (I. E for newer iPads) allows you to run two applications at once with fluid switching between them. It is more like a computer than a tablet.
Thanks to the new Files app, iOS 13 also adds improvements in file handling mechanisms and brings support for external storage devices such as USB drives or hard disks along with drag-and-drop between apps. With Apple Pencil, iPadOS gives you the ability to write in any text field with Scribble, mark up PDFs and more.
Safari features desktop-class browsing on iPadOS, better widgets, and full keyboard and mouse/trackpad support for the Magic Keyboard angle.
Ultimately, iPadOS unleashes everything that makes the iPad an iPad. So be it work, study, design or chillin’ — the software is what differentiates the iPad from a larger iPhone.
