Announced at the WWDC 2017, iOS 11 is Apple’s latest iteration of the OS and it was released to the public on September 19, 2017. It introduced a lot new features, changes and enhancements most especially for iPads and over user experience.
Key Features of iOS 11:
Redesigned Control Center:
Control Center has been entirely rethought, making it easier than ever to customize and more feel personal. This allowed users to add, remove, and rearrange shortcuts and controls as desired, which also supported 3D Touch with additional options.
Improved Siri:
Siri smarts: Siri was updated with a more expressive voice, could now makeola calls to emergency services in new territories and even translate text between two languages It may also suggest actions based on your behavior or the apps you are using that day.
iPad-Specific Enhancements:
iOS 11 Was a Huge Step Forward for the iPad This included the new Dock for quicker app access and Files, the new file organization and document browsing tool. With iOS 11, Apple also introduced drag-and-drop for multitasking and improved app-switching, allowing two apps to be used side-by-side.
ARKit (Augmented Reality):
In case you missed it, one of my picks of Apple’s WWDC announcement from earlier this month was the ARKit SDK, a new platform that allows developers to create AR apps capable of meshing virtual content with elements of the real world. That in turned unleashed a flood of AR experiences on the iPhone and iPad.
Do Not Disturb While Driving:
One of the new features introduced in iOS 11 was Do Not Disturb While Driving, which silenced notifications and kept your phone silent as well at times when it would detect you driving.
App Store Overhaul:
There was a new enlighting Today tab in the App Store that provided users with App recommendations along side updates of applications or featured Apps on a daily basis. It also allowed in-app purchases more easily.
Files App:
The first thing that stands out is the Files app, a dedicated file manager that you can use to organize, store, and find all of your documents across your devices. Also, supported integration to third-party cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox等
Improved Notifications:
Apple iOS 11 — Notifications are now grouped by app to keep things more organized, new lock screen redesign with notifications that continue beneath each other.
Apple Pay Improvements:
Apple Pay also got more tight with iMessage — you can send cash to friends via text. And it brought Person-to-Person payments to the Messages app also
Revamped Camera and Photos:
Camera was improved in the Camera app, adopting High Efficiency Image Format (HEIF) for photos and HEVC for videos, providing higher-quality images at smaller file sizes. Improvements to Portrait Mode and Live Photo were added as well.
Multitasking Enhancements:
And finally iOS 11 bettered multitasking, particularly for iPads. Slide Over, Split View, and Picture-in-Picture all received incremental improvements that made exiting to the app switcher or rapidly returning to the home screen more efficient.
Apple Maps Enhancements:
New indoor maps in Apple Maps for major airports and shopping centers, public transit navigation improvements, and better driving directions.
HomePod Support:
HomePod, Apple’s Siri-friendly smart speaker that enables you to speak commands for music, home automation and more was initially compatible iOS 11.
