HMS: Huawei’s Alternative to Google Mobile Services

Huawei Mobile Services, or HMS, is Huawei’s proprietary ecosystem of apps, cloud services, and developer tools designed to replace Google Mobile Services on Huawei and Honor devices. Introduced widely after Huawei’s restrictions on using Google services in 2019, HMS has grown into a robust platform powering millions of devices worldwide.

At its core, HMS includes key apps such as AppGallery (Huawei’s official app store), Huawei Browser, Huawei Cloud, Petal Search, and Petal Maps. It also features Huawei ID for secure login, Huawei Health for fitness tracking, and Huawei Video for streaming content. These apps are supported by HMS Core, a suite of APIs and services that allow developers to integrate location, payments, push notifications, and more into their apps without relying on Google infrastructure.

HMS aims to provide a seamless, interconnected experience across Huawei’s ecosystem, enabling smooth data sync and device continuity between smartphones, tablets, wearables, and even smart TVs. Huawei invests heavily in developer partnerships and incentives to expand the AppGallery library, making it a competitive alternative to Google Play.
